We are always on the lookout for shiny new models of shiny new cars (or old cars). But it's sometimes fun to find something a bit different and I thought these recent releases by Corgi make a nice change. "Ratty" versions of the VW T1 and T2 buses.

I have plenty of clean and tidy models of these vans but these would make an interesting contrast to the "polished" specimens. An intriguing idea from Corgi, and they seem to be quite well done, although I've only seen the photos.

Maybe the wheels on the blue one are a little too shiny, but a lot of these "ratmobiles" had good quality running gear under the tatty bodywork, so they may be OK. They could always be given a black wash.

Of course if you like such things you can always take a cheap spare model and do it yourself, but I think that getting weathering and rust to look convincing on a model is a bit of an art and probably takes quite a bit of practice to get it right. So these could save a lot of trouble.

(With apologies to anybody who was hoping for a bit of soft porn humour here.)

Corgi is not the first to make dingy clapped-out vehicles, and won't be the last!
