Hi guys,
I have been looking for a Durham 54 Ranch Wagon but they are scarce and when available quite pricey. So, I got a Courier for a reasonable price and decided I would take a stab at converting it to a Ranch Wagon. For the interior I used the parts from FM 50 woody. I also decided to upgrade to full wheel covers. The Durham is very solid with thick walls and not too easy to cut through.
Here is my conversion along side another courier. Thanks for looking. Chuck
Sorry for the misspelling of Conversion!
Chuck, your conversion looks excellent. I'm wondering how you cut out the side windows? I have the original Ranch Wagon and your work compares favorably.
What a wonderful conversion Chuck. You show a lot of talent and patience. Thank for the post.
@bob-jackman Hey Bob, I used an exacto razor tooth saw. I cut the entire large opening and then inserted the window divider. Thanks
My technique on these type jobs is to drill a hole(s) in the window area. Then using this hole use a jeweler's saw to open up the opening but do the final sizing and shape with a series of files. The saw.
Here is one diecast by Road Champs, a panel truck that became a suburban. Doing this with white metal items is WAY easier than diecast which is very, very hard and kills/breaks saw blades.

Thanks Chuck and John Q. John that Road Champs model is outstanding.
@john-quilter Your jeweller's saw looks exactly like mine - a Christmas gift from an aunt in the 1960s. It was used on many a plastic 1/25 kit. And yes, a real blade eater when it comes to zamac, as I found out while making my Fiat dragster.
