I used to be able to find large whitewall tires on the market but this is becoming very difficult. I updated all of my early 50's Buick models with larger whitewalls and they look so far better.
Lately, I was looking at the NBC Brooklin's 1940 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe. The whitewalls are way too narrow for the period. I installed a set of Durham Classics I found on Ebay some time ago. Probably they were old stock. The model looks far better but I still would like fatter whitewalls.
Other than transfers, does anybody has a source for whitewalls? On the following picture, they are all silicone 2 pieces tires and what I am looking at ....
Left.....Durham Classics.
Middle ..... Brooklin's original from 1940 Lincoln Zephyr.
Right ...... I don't remember.
Nickies, I don't know of a source for the wider whitewalls. I have always used Durham Classics which I used to buy direct from them. The correct width white walls can make or break a model IMO.
Bob, it always amazes and upsets me, how someone could spend thousands of $ on a 1/1 restoration and place the wrong width white walls on the vehicle.Nickies, I don't know of a source for the wider whitewalls. @sizedoesmatter John, I couldn't agree more. Several ears ago I bought a 1955 Thunderbird that had a set of practically new narrow white walls on it. A neighbor laughed at me when I told him I was replacing them with the correct sized white walls. I never did tell him that I sold those tires for enough money to pay for the new tires.
