Recently I've managed to purchase motorsport model by Vanguards is Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4×4 a winner of the 1991 Ulster Rally. This car was driven by Bertie Fisher and Rory Kennedy.
In 1991 Bertie Fisher was reigning Irish Tarmac Rally Champion and went into the Ulster Rally. The main battle for thd victory was between Fisher, Russel Brooks in a Sierra Cosworth 4×4 and Colin McRae in a works Prodrive Subaru Legacy. At least Bertie Fisher could achieve a brilliant victory.
He waa Ireland's most successful driver with twenty Irish Tarmac Championship wins. In 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1996 he won championship.
Unfirtunately, he was killed 21st January in a helicopter crash.

Vanguards made a magnificent diecast model of the Ulster Rally 1991 winner. Only 2300 models were produced. Except a collector's card inside the box you can find bouklet about a history of Bertie Fisher and to watch real photos of the 1991 Ulster Rally.
The model was made in pre- Hornby era for Vanguards and packed into a traditional carboard box. Rear mirrors and spoiler are separate parts and need to be fixed by a customer.

In addition I'd like to share a small catalog of the 2008/2009 motorsport collection by Vanguards.

Unfortunately, after Hornby Hobbies had

acquired Vanguards brand production of motorsport cars was stopped.

I don't know reasons but now in diecast segment we have Ixo rally models by a reasonable price which quality isn't good sometimes and expensive highquality models by Trofeu.

Those older Vanguards are nice - designed in England!

Nice history, Fred. I collected quite a few Vanguards and still have somewhere that #83 MGB. I should have got more into rally cars but space only goes so far. Good post. Thanks.

Here's MGB #83, 17th at the Monte in 1964 (but first in GT). The green one is a '67 that placed 16th in the 1980 24-hour Willhire race.
