I came across this model a few years ago and while I knew nothing about the brand at the time. I found it very interesting. A unique model from an obscure auto company.

Made in Bavaria, Germany. Fastback and convertible versions look pretty cool too.

A pretty car.  Glas put some decent engineering (and styling) effort into their cars but unfortunately they were chronically short of operating capital and struggled to get their cars into production profitably. BMW took them over in 1966 and although the 1700 remained in production for a while, badged as a BMW, it competed with BMW's very similar 1800 so was discontinued in Germany. The dies went to South Africa where the car was originally built with unchanged styling then got a BMW nose  and became the BMW 1800 and 2000. Not to be confused with the new BMW 1800 produced in Germany.

One related car I do have models of is the Glas 3000 GT, styled by Frua in Italy, which later became the BMW Glas GT.

The 1;43 Schuco model is well detailed. The Märklin is rather simpler in execution but quite pleasing. The oddity is the Sablon version produced in Belgium, which was quite rough and and as you can see in one of the pictures, suffered badly from the different plastics used for the wheels and tyres digesting each other over time. You can even find people online selling "boxed" specimens with no tyres left on them.

@perrone1 Looks a bit like a channeled Ford Maverick.  I hope JK doesn't get too melancholy seeing this pic!  He had the very rare "Faux Cobra" version.

Be still, my beating heart! But mine had no namby-pamby Green stripes! It had the right and proper black stripes to make it into a faux Boss 302...kinda.

The only Glas's I have are the 2 old diecast from Marklin and Sablon.  Took these photos ten years ago - I wonder if my Sablon wheels are 100% gone by now?  🤔 ☹️

I had a Sablon Porsche 911 whose wheels deteriorated rather quickly. But it only seemed to affect the outer rims. So I tore those off and repainted the whole thing red. The Sablon otherwise replicated the Fuchs 5-spokers, so with new silver paint and flat black behind the spokes it didn't look too bad.  Long gone from my collection though, and good riddance.
