I came across this model on eBay, and while it isn't significantly different from the standard factory issue, it was enough to pique my interest. Since the subject matter is a Brooklin favorite of mine, the purchase was easy one. The model was also crafted by John White, so another bonus.
1954 Mercury Monterey Convertible Coupe, BRK 162 in Bittersweet. The biggest difference from the factory edition is the color of the convertible boot and the interior detailing as well as some exterior detailing too.

Nice looking model. I am glad it found a good home.

Extremely nice 1954 Mercury and in an eye-catching color, too ! I have a couple of '54 Mercury Monterey/Sun Valley automobiles in 1/43 and 1/64 and they are great looking cars.
Great looking model, John. I have the standard one and display it next to Brooklin's '54 DeSoto.
It's almost like one of John Bono's comparisons...which '54?

Both are gorgeous and big-time favorites of mine. If this was a comparison, I'd have to go with a tie for these two.

I saw that one too, but balked. Why did JW take the paint off the headlamp surrounds - didn't BRK get it right by leaving them body color?
I've seen the car both ways, I am guessing that the chrome rings were probably an aftermarket option at some point, I don't think it was a factory option, but ??.

We have seen the same headlight ring done on the '54 Ford occasionally. Like you John, I'm not sure whether it was a factory or aftermarket option back in the day.
