Recently I re-acquired a Dinky Toy I had as a child - the #25V / 252 Bedford OS-series refuse truck. This little toy had a lot of play value - the side doors slid up for trash dumping from cans. And a clever crank-operated screw mechanism tilted the rear body for dumping. Though my memory ain't what it used to be, this may be the last Dinky I have re-acquired from my childhood days.

So I wondered how many other trash trucks I have besides this one. Turns out I have three, one of which is a Matchbox at near HO scale. Here are the other two. Dinky 978 is another Bedford (1:42), which came with curbside cans. Unlike a lot of current trucks with hydraulics to condense the garbage, the real vehicle seems to use gravity to do the trick.

My other is 1:50 Conrad model of a Mack Leach 2-R II Packmaster in BFI livery. Quite a rarity these days, especially with the bulldog on the front still intact.

I like this KDW Garbage Truck that I have had on a diorama for about 5 years mostly because it is a near-replica of the trucks we have here in Santa Monica.

Harv;

As you probably are aware, this Dinky Toys #25V/252 Bedford OS-series refuse truck was also done in green in lesser numbers.

My only one shown so far that I still have is the Dinky beige Bedford. Thanks for the memories.

@jack-dodds I guessed that you would have one Jack. What's interesting is that mine has windows (which came about in the late 1950s) but came with a transitional 25V/252 box from around 1954-55. I'm wondering if mine has the correct box. I see your later olive version has windows too. There was also an orange and gray version with an all-silver grille.

@mg-harv HARV;  I CURRENTLY HAVE TWO GREEN VERSIONS (ONE MID GREEN, ONE OLIVE). MY TAN VERSION AND TWO ORANGE VERSIONS WERE STOLEN BACK IN 2017.  I MEANT TO REPLACE THEM BUT AS THE DINKY TOY COLLECTION IS CURRENTLY PACKED AWAY I SIMPLY FORGOT ABOUT IT....UNTIL NOW.  LOL.

THE DINKY TOYS BOOK BY DR. EDWARD FORCE INDICATES THE VARIOUS COLORS CAME BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT WINDOWS....NO FURTHER DETAILS NOTED.

Geez Jack, why are you yelling (all caps)? I usually take US authors talking about UK products with a grain of salt. Seems doubtful that the last colors appeared in models without windows.

@mg-harv Sorry about the caps.  That's what happens when you 2-finger type while fixated on the keys, which is why years ago I didn't make the cut at secretarial college (YES I'M KIDDING!).  It's also about being to lazy to redo it.  Lol.

Your comments about the later issues being more like to be fitted with windows makes sense to me.
