If you know Dream Cars you may know this one. The Buick Y Job from GM. Did it have a black interior or a red interior. And if it had both, do you know when it changed? And was this car always in black exterior? Thanks, if you know it will be appreciated.
(PIC) Don, the car was always (to my knowledge) "Triple Black."
I've never seen the Buick Y Job in any other color scheme other than it's original Black exterior, Black interior and Black (although seldom seen in the up position) cloth top.
(Please note: The "up top" shown is for illustration purposes only. Actual top was designed differently)

It was all black when I saw it. GADM also did it in silver though. Anyone know why?
I've heard rumors that it was repainted. But there are a lot of rumors about the Y Job.
But, I've never been able to find anything that substantiates a repaint. As near as I can tell, the silver edition is a fantasy car.
Here's an interesting note. The Y-Job is legendarily known as the first concept car. But, it was preceded by at least one other concept, the Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow. And...the Y-Job wasn't really designed by Harley Earl. Earl came up with the concept but a man named George Snyder put earl's ideas on the drawing board.
Here are a few interesting articles that address some of the Y-Job's history.

You guys can really find the dope. But I'm still confused about the red interior in one of our current 1/43rds available. And I know GM liked to confuse the public with their show cars by always changing them. And I agree the Auburn Cabin Speedster is a concept car too. Some years ago I saw the burnt remains of the original in a museum in Indiana and also the new one built from its plans. Sharp car. By the way one of John's links is not there anymore. But the others are very helpful.
Just like model Rail Roading.....
...manufactures often take liberties with "historically accurate" liveries, paint schemes, details, etc... all in an effort to "milk the molds" which of course translates to increased sales. As always, the almighty dollar takes precedence over everything.
Bottom line: Unless you can prove otherwise, that red Buick Y-Job interior is pure fantasy.
I repaired that link. I may stand corrected on the Silver painted Y-Job. Stay tuned.

Steve, that's the BEST Buick Y-Job replica around. Very true to the original.
It got a lot of attention from us 'old-timers' lol.
