The 1966 Willys Aero by IXO - CARROS INESQUECIVEIS DO BRASIL

Even as a failing Kaiser purchased the venerable Willys firm in 1953, Willys was closing an international contract with Brazil to build a Brazilian Willys. And even as Kaiser closed with their last 1955 Kaiser and Willys models, Willys-Overland Do Brasil started production, at first by assembling imported parts. Over the next decade, Willys Brazil built a modern plant, largely owned by Brazilian interests, and that basic Willys of 1953 became, for a while at least, the best selling car in Brazil.

The plant also built Jeep trucks, Rurals they were named, and assembled Renaults as well.

It was restyled several times over the years, but the basic body remained the Willys that landed on the American buying public in 1953 with a thud, and left in 1955 with hardly a whimper. In Brazil it found a new life, even (for a while) after Ford bought that modern plant.

I purchased this model from China, and it arrived quickly. It was priced at about $20 and is assembled with care. I have attempted with a close-up to show this detailing below. I appreciate it!

And a last note: I have no idea why the name "Willys" is doubled on the manufacturer's base plate and license plate.
Very interesting, David. Thanks for the informative post.

Thank you, David!
I'd been looking for a good model of one of these Brooks Stevens restyles of the Aero Willys at a reasonable price.
Thanks so much for the review, the excellent photos, and the tip. I've just ordered one from the vendor you mentioned.
.
I don't think Ford Madox Ford had anything to do with it. He was gone by then! 🙂
The histories of the 1:1 is part of the fun of collecting.
It's apparent that I agree, Mark. I have fun with my models that go beyond admiring their colors and workmanship. This Willys is a good example, including the plans of the 50's to import the car from Brazil to the United States. Of course that never happened, but when I see this model, it makes me wonder "what if." I don't think it should surprise anyone to find that one of my favorite writers is Harry Turtledove.

Thanks, Jacques. The black gives a different looks, and this is, I think, a more deluxe version. Interesting!
Nice!

Ah yes, an obscure literary allusion, my good soldier, Karl. I like it.
David, I like that model. Good value, too.
