I have seen many 1/64 scale cars and trucks, and 1/72 scale military vehicles with very good detail. Some of these I previously posted in the 1/64 and smaller scales section. The car shown in MAR is very nice.

These super-detailed, 1/64 were mentioned before in MAR Online as well. Seem to be available mostly on epay direct from Chinese sellers. I wonder, with increased costs worldwide, if these great looking 1/64s will cannibalize the higher priced 1/43rds now on sale?

I am not understanding the explosion of 64th scale models. I got only a few to display on my S gauge model railroad but would prefer more from the 1930s and 40s for the era represented. I get an email more than once a week from a well known model supplier which is often largely 64th scale items. Who is buying all these?

Myself, and other S Scale model railroaders buy the more detailed 1/64 scale models. I have about 75 cars and trucks in 1/64 scale, roughly 80% cars. I use about 25 of them on my train layout. Trucks in 1/64 scale have been popular for many years, and of course the Hot Wheels cars have a global following. I bought my first truck in the early 1990's, an AHL one by Hartoy. More accurate 1/64 scale cars started to appear in later 1990's, which is when I started buying them. I have also been noticing increasing numbers of nicely detailed model cars and trucks in this scale, mostly in emails from Diecast Direct. Who is buying them is also a mystery to me. Compared to other train scales, there are not that many folks in S Scale.
I remember John Merritt has many 1/64 scale models, but do not know if he has purchased any in recent years.

You would have a hell of a layout with my 1/64 collection. I have about 8,000 Johnny Lightings on cards and about 2,000 Hot Wheels and Matchboxes on cards.
I am starting to hang them on walls like wallpaper.
Wow! I had no idea Johnny Lightning made that many cars. Would you provide a photo, or two, of one of your walls?

Johnny Lightning sold single cars, sets with 5 cars, sets with 10 cars, sets with 20 cars, kits with tiny screwdrivers that you assembled, all kinds of cars, and I bought them all...!!!
First pic is the Johnny Lightning wall paper I started in my weight room, then you'll see what is left of my Danbury Mint collection (I had a few hundred of them, but sold them to cover my late wifes cancer treatments) and then a pic of some loose 1/64's in 2 display cases on the wall (but I have hundreds and hundreds more loose ones) and then most of my 1/43'rds.
I also have a good size collection of the Johnny Lightning 1/24's.
@ben-lampson I am so sorry about your wife. My condolences. But that collection - WoW!!
My condolences also Ben. I do not buy Hot Wheels or Matchbox but I have hundreds of AW and Green Light and try to match them up with their bigger brothers on display. In the last year these two manufacturers models have become tremendous for their details.
