Interesting to note that the new packaging has generated more comment than the model itself. I bit of irony there methinks.
Good points Randy.
Randy you hit on a big part of this issue. I have been collecting
Brooklins since 1990 and belong to clubs in the UK, have gone to UK events, etc. In short I am a huge model collector and a big fan of Brooklin Models. Most of the collectors I have met over these many years are also big Brooklin collectors who buy a very large percentage of what BRK makes. So it does become a big deal for those who have to now spend 20 pounds extra per model for a box most won't use for presentation. As you can see from comments, most members have large display cases. Someone commented a short time ago that perhaps Brooklin, in moving upscale out of necessity, was trying to reach a more diverse market (collectors and others) and were also perhaps moving past traditional buyers of their product. I'm not sure if this is in fact true and I also know that modern business is damned tough survival, so I do feel for Nigel et al of course. I just think that a compromise can be reached to satisfy all parties involved and at the same time ensure Brooklin's prosperity.
Yes indeed. I hope it stimulates some positive results for all parties.
I think Brooklin is doing what the collector has been asking for, and that is more.........
detailing on the models. More upscale if you will. So the packaging is just an extension of that mind set in my opinion. That's the way I see it. Its not the packaging and the model its the total package ?
Plain packaging worked for Conquest, Motor City, etc. though.....
I thought that at least with the new box the model will have not the headlights in metal?
Was it necessary to have the new box for this Ford that I not consider like a model at the same level that a few last models that BRK has done? The Ford is beautiful and i like it but I think i can compare this one to some older models. The BML-14 1947 Chrysler Town and country for example should merit the new boxe as well as the 1954 Cadillac and the last Packard limousine with the clear headlights not in metal and some others.
Thank you very much Mike for all the photos.
I have every regular issue Brooklin and many specials as the models were introduced over the years. I have been in favor of the greater detail being incorporated into the models but see no value in a box that's worth nothing to me. As has been pointed out but others, the cost of a box will certainly have an effect on my buying habits. No longer will I automatically be buying every issue as it's released. Thank you Mike Coupe for communicating with we forum members while Brooklin seems to be in hiding.
Very well put!
Agree...and you could say the same for Conquest Models
Indeed, Conquest and Motor City.
