These look great ! They are very cool versions of this DeSoto. If Groucho got arrested or had to take a cab, these are the automobiles he would take ! Wink

Interesting, but I doubt that a 4-door hardtop would be used for any of these purposes...still, I like them!

@moe-parr Agreed, especially a police version.

Agreed, highly unlikely.  Oh sure, "Johnny Seriff"  of some small town could've employed a personal car for "double duty,"  but a 4-door hardtop for a highway patrol car?   Not likely.  But of course, anything's possible (but I ALWAYS want proof!  😏 😏).

How about a '57 Ford convertible Police car, or a sprint car-racer with whitewalls?    🙄 😲

Police cars and taxis get a lot of rugged use and I don't think a 4-dr. HT would even have the structural integrity!

But they were made and in any case I don't know of anybody who is familiar with every single 1959 DeSoto ever made. As usual, if you like it consider getting it. If not, don't get it.

Looking at  comprehensive book Encyclopedia of American Police Cars,  i see no 1959 Desotos pictured as police cars but Mopars were used in 1959. Dodge two door sedans with 320 BHP,  383cid four barrel engines, Torqueflite gearboxes.  Missouri did use four door sedans which were a 6 window car and some two door hardtops.  Missouri sold theirs off after only 25,000 miles because they brought such good money on the used market and bought a new batch.

Having owned an extremely solid, mostly original, 1957 Dodge 4-dr HT as a collector car for over 10 years I can tell you... it was fairly solid BUT NOTHING like a 4-dr sedan, not even close!

John, I'm sure there were plenty of '59 DeSoto Police cars (it defies logic to assume none were made ) but like you....  I couldn't find any pictures of '59's either.  😔 😔    That being said, Esval's model looks cool, I'm sure they'll enjoy positive sell-through.

Now that I think about it didn't NEO do a 1959 Dodge as a black and white California highway patrol car?   If so they fudged a bit as it was a hardtop not a 2 door sedan although the roof line in that year was the same I believe.
