Mercedes wanted to swap the new M116 V8 engine from the Roadster 500 SL R129 in their W124 E class to try challenging the BMW M5 E34, but they had a problem: they could not afford the manufacture in the regular E class production line in Sindelfingen as the bodywork in the new flagship model was wider and lower, so, they managed Porsche the production and specific development in their Weissach facility. And the result was a really stunning car.
Minichamps reissued this model in their new economic range Maxichamps. The exterior ending is the same, but the interior is all black except the decal for the instrument panel. Although, 35€ for this model in the prices that the hobby actually moves, I think it's like a present for such a good model.
I'm really happy adding this model to my collection as a it's the typical car me and my friends dreamt in our childhood reading the magazines. I remember the 1st time I saw a 1/1 500 E was in 2002 in Seville...

Keko, you taught me something I did not know. I have a few Maxichamps but thought they were 100% reissues of Minichamps. I guess I should look at the interiors to see of they have been similarly cheapened.

Maxichamps brand produces reissues of the old Minichamps which have unpainted interiors. Some little detailes like bages also declined. By the way a coup;e modles of BMW which initially had opening bonnet don't have this one anymore. I have a few models and in my opinion original versions have better quality. My Fords Capri Mk1 and Escort RS have little painting defects which weren't on basic Minichamps. In any case in the world where expensive resin occupied a market Maxichamps isn't a bad choice.

@fred-eliseeff I could not explain it better than you, dear Fred: I only have two Maxichamps, the Mercedes 180 Ponton and this W124.
