(PICS) A few years ago, TWH produced this Panama Canal steam shovel
Evidently, 77 of these Bucyrus steam shovels were used in the excavation of the Panama Canal, and were in use there from 1904 until 1914. The small platform on the boom was for the second operator who released the shovel load when it was in position.
The metal model is in O-scale (1/48) and although manufactured by TWH, they seem to have been marketed by Toy Trucker.
Removeable cranks are used to operate the various shovel functions, including the slewing of the boom.
