PICS - BMW 320i Group 5 - 1977 DRM

A couple of 30 year old BMW racers from the Group 5 era - a silhouette formula.

The models are by Minichamps & represent the #4 GS Tuning Warsteiner car of Jorg Obermoser & the #21 Team Hat car of Ronnie Peterson. I was (still am) a big fan of "Mad Ronald" as Mike Hailwood, affectionately, called him, so couldn't resist the #21. As the model is very well done, I decided to get the #4 as well - the gold / black Warsteiner colours always look good.

PICS a couple more Group 5 BMW's .....

Hi Steve

Nice to see you posting again! You have a couple of great models here and thanks for the additional information. Hopefully, you won't mind me posting a couple of pics of two similar model cars. These were available at the same time as the actual cars were competing. They are made by Bandai and form part of their 1:43rd Exact Collection range.

Lovely models Chris

Two great liveries as well - Jaegermeister orange is always welcome - Minichamps promise the same car!

As for the #5, it looks to be in works BMW colours - do I see Ronnie's name, along with Hans-Joachim Stuck's, on the side?

Steve

Steve the #5 car has indeed Ronnie's and Hans' ....

names on the doors. Yes this is a BMW works car for the IMSA GT series in the States. However, the team was run by Team McLaren who added a Garrett Ai Research turbocharger to boost engine performance. The sponser for these cars was the First National City Travelers Checks. The most prolific driver for Team McLaren in this period was David Hobbs of the UK who notched up eight IMSA GT victories.
