Talbot-Lago T150-C Chassis Nº 90019

Personally, my favourite car, with a prowling stance and ‘attitude’ that I find profoundly engaging, (though do I believe Figoni et Falaschi's contemporaneous 1938 World’s Fair Delahaye 165 is the most beautiful car ever.)
     Figoni et Falaschi records detail three Talbot-Lago T150-C cabriolets bodied for 1938: 90111, 90115 and the present example Chassis 90019, being the sole example built on the longer wheelbase platform. Using Figoni's “enveloppantes”  front fenders, it has the lithe air of a ’36 Paris Salon Delahaye, but with Talbot's buff - and somewhat menacing - grille treatment; and benefitting from its longer length, it can also seem stretched-out like predator about to spring to action.
     The car was badged as a Darracq (as many Talbot-Lago were) and has been frequently referred to as ’Talbot-Darracq’ -  wearing the square, rather than round Darracq badge, denoting an export product.
     It was ordered by the Count and Countess de Colhiva in 1938 and shipped to them in Oporto, Portugal. It was kept in the family until 1975 when sold to Frenchman, Michel Poberejsky  (16 June 1930 - 21 September 2012) who, under the pseudonym “Mike Sparken” had been a well known race driver of Ferrari, and other marques; winning a number of North African races during the fifties. Mr. Poberejsky has stated that on purchase it was entirely original, in perfect condition, and ran well. In 1983 it was sold again and sent to Le Coq in Paris for a full restoration and repaint in original colours, and was shown on the Le Coq stand at the 1985 Paris Retromobile.  Two years later it was purchased at auction and shipped to Florida.  It may now be seen in a yellow and dark navy colour scheme, looking more like a bumble-bee than prowling predator.
    On a final note - though most will doubtless know - the letters ‘ant' at the end of a French word may at times equate to the English ‘ing' and thus 'enveloppant' - delightful as it seems to Anglophone humour - is simply a direct translation of ‘enveloping’.

Fantastic account and car. And wonderful pics of the 1/43. I can only imagine the chaos this car would cause, driving it today, down any US street or road! A thing of other-worldly beauty!

@perrone1 Thank-you Tony, for your kind remarks. Photography is definitely not my forte, but with such visual drama as a design like this, one can't go wrong!

Another fascinating post Charles, Thank you. And thanks to Bumblebees for being responsible for much of the colorful beauty in the world.

Some PICS:  size, and model maker comparisons. The yellow/blue Talbot on the longer wheelbase platform is by Heco/Challenge, the red/white Delehaye short wheelbase is by Spark. Figoni & Falaschi are responsible for the shapely body work on each automobile.

Grills: the less expensive Spark wins. Tails: - a toss up????

Interior: Heco wins.   The Spark model is a stunning model non-the-less especially when concerning the price differential.

@karl

I like your idea better. I have a TSM 1/43 scale model just like your picture.
