Displaying resin models does not become a problem if you have space, since each model comes in its own case. But what about white metal and die cast models where cases are not provided? These models can be expensive and deserve to be placed in a protective display also. If you have a large number of metal cars, you probably have a curio cabinet, jewellery store type glass cabinet or acrylic wall mounted or table top cabinet which can accommodate your collection. If you have a very large collection, you may be forced to keep a portion of them in their boxes. But what if you just want to display a couple of cars on your office or man cave desk? Heres a way to display up to 6 cars at once at a cost just around $10. I live near Toronto, Canada, and here we have a dollar store chain called Dollarama. I don't believe they are in the US. In any event, you may be able to find something similar to what I am going to describe in your local dollar store. Dollarama sells silverware organizers for kitchen drawers with 3 compartments at a cost of about $3. If you have a corner hardware store like our Home Hardwares in Canada, they will cut you a piece of plexiglass to the dimensions of the organizer. You may need to glue a piece of 1/4 x 1/4 piece of balsa wood around the perimeter and crosspieces if the organizer isn't deep enough when screwing on the plexiglass. I use 4 small screws, one in each corner to attach the plexiglass. Thats it. Below is the finished product.
Great idea!!!
Thanks Ken. I'll look for these in Dollarama tomorrow. Excellent tip.
