To continue with yesterday’s Saoutchik post I would like to add his Series 62 Cadillac of 1948. As with most French coachbuilders after the war, Saoutchik were keen to sell to the American market and so created this special ‘trois place’ cabriolet body on Cadillac 62 chassis for the Paris salon of that year. At the same time a celebrated New York Furrier, Louis Ritter had obtained a bare Cadillac Chassis via Tommy Lee of California - renowned racer and collector of exotic French cars, notably Lago-Talbot - with the express intention of having it clad by Saoutchik and on seeing the salon car in process, had his car modelled almost exactly identically. The Ritter model can be distinguished as it still bears the initials of its second owner, Paul Kassoff on a badge above the grille. Also, I’d like to add Saoutchik’s version of Figoni Et Falaschi’s Narval style, built on a Delahaye 175 Chassis and dating from 1949. Both 1/43 scale Chromes.

Magnificent models. Saoutchik sure was the master of Art Deco automotive styling.
