I know exactly what you are saying Don - We downsized about 20 years ago, and I am still in the process of disposing of some of my collections that there is no longer room to display. I have found though that I seem to enjoy the ones that are on display more - as they are the ones that mean the most to me.

Don: I really like your 3 level displays. I was thinking of making one out of maple or oak.Add some stantions and roping and carpeted steps, you know, like in a showroom, with micro LEDs. The difficult part would be to find a plexiglass cover to fit. I guess the top would also have to be constructed .If the top of the cover was opaque, lights could be recessed in it with only the sides being clear.

Sounds neat but maybe a little complex for me. Remember the car is the star.

Of course I do build models but I need those instructions. I was in sales. We could talk the talk but it never got much farther. Now sign this, and press hard for the copies. Oh, and please.

Downsizing?

I thought about this many times, but I just can't do it. I'm praying that my health will hold up long enough to keep me in this house, until the fateful day. I'm 80 and Madeline, my wife of 41 years passed in 2003. I have two great sons, but they have no interest in my 1942 Studebaker President, or my huge collection of automobile sales brochures, signs, advertising, postcards, trinkets, dealership items,banks, taxi memorabilia, magazines, gas station memorabilia, bicycles, and over 1200 hardbound books, etc., plus over 4,000 model cars and trucks, from pre-war toys to today's resin models. I'm like that guy on American Pickers. He has a barn full of stuff, and it breaks his heart to sell one thing. I have been collecting all of my life. It's all I know, but I love it, always have. Next to my family and grandchildren, it means everything. I'm just a car addict. We have a good laugh on holiday family gatherings. What would I have done if there were no cars, and we used public transportation. Probably collect buses!

Sorry if I put everyone to sleep, but I had fun replying to the downsizing question. I needed that, being stuck in the house for close to 3 weeks, because of this coronavirus.

Ray, I consider you a very lucky guy to be able to keep the things you have. In my career in sales I have been moved all over this great country I could never accumulate too much. But I did find the shopping great fun. Then I discovered Swap Meets and the salesman in me came alive. So I pick up a new fad very easily and if someone else has a hankering, it's gone soon. But in my memory I think it's still here. Maybe I'm bonkers, huh?

Ken.... If I'm not mistaken CARNEY PLASICS out of Youngstown can custom make the top you desire. I had them make me up something a while back

We moved from a 500 sq. ft. studio to an 1100 sq. ft. FL condo. We upsized! More room for models!

Never had Carney make me something custom but love their display cases. If you have really long vehicles, such as limos and hearses, better to order the 43rd scale shelves without dividers though.
