Sometimes just a little chrome is all it needs to stand out as a true scale model. A few paragraphs earlier I was invited to show what I mean with bare metal chrome trim on my cars. Here is a quartet of Dinky Matchbox Skylarks I am starting to detail. You'll see new chrome on the side, windshield and emblems. The white car I've totally repainted. I'd like to do more factory colors, a couple of reds are almost completed. But the actual factory 1953 paint color is costly. So I look touch up spray in auto parts stores. And I'm not the high-skilled modeler some of you are. I've done quite a few Brooklins and when we did the Strictly 43rd show in Chicago I sold them all. Sorry.photo no longer available

Thanks Ken, since falling in love with these old Skylarks

I've learned that blue Matchbox or Dinky did here was not in the Buick color range for the 1:1 car so I've found the right metallic silver blue and repainted one. And also I want to do a black one too. But with the cold weather and high humidity I'll probably have to wait a month or two for the right weather.
My garage is too cold and damp right now. That blue and a solid red car are already done so when I get a chance I'll photograph them here.

And even rebuilding some old ones, acquired on the used market. Sorry for my poor skills, but I enjoy the process!

So for you Buick lovers among us here's my repaints so far. This is a solid red while another metallic awaits shooting time and that blue is a nice soft metallic I like to call "Old Man Blue" a name once coined by a used car salesman in the sixties. And it stuck with me for some reason. Next for me is to figure our a way to add the sun visors to all of these convertibles. photo no longer available

I admire any modeler who can do this magic with Bare Metal Foil
