Spot-On No.289 1950s Morris Minor 1000 by PP Copy Models.
Spot-On, a Triang company made accurate for their times models in 1/42 scale in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Production started in 1959 but in 1967, a fire destroyed the factory and all the company development plans and records, putting them out of business. Spot-On vehicles are very collectible today.
White looking for my Idea 3 white metal models in storage after a post here by David Holcombe, I came across this PP Copy Models of Brighton white metal model.
In the 1970s and 80s, a number of cottage industries developed making white metal castings go Corgi, Dinky and Spot-On etc models. Bucanner, Copy Cat and PP Copy Models concentrated on replicas while others such as John Day, Mikansue and Auto Replica developed unique not copied models.
Anyway, here is my white metal Morris Minor 1000 from white metal by PP Copy Models.
Very nice Spot On models. The Morris Minor really was a classic. If Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) who did the ads for VW had done the ads for the Morris who knows how well they might have sold in the U. S.? Like the color of your Spot On model.

Harv;
I have several of these Morris models but they are all restorations....very well done though. Done in O.E. White, red, grey, Almond green and light blue. I really like the Spot-On toys.

Hi David
There wasn't a factory fire at Spot-On's production facility. This is an urban myth. Some years ago in Model Collector magazine Richard Lines, one of the relatives of the Lines Brothers (owners of the Tri-ang company), stated in an interview that there wasn't a fire at the factory. He confirmed that production halted because Tri-ang decided to go with one die-cast model car range and this was Dinky Toys. Tri-ang's Belfast factory still made soft toys and other toy ranges under the Spot-On label such as dolls house furniture. In fact soft toy production carried on even after Tri-ang's demise in 1971 and was still taking place in the 1990's.

Thanks Chis. It is nice to learn something new.
It is amazing how many stories about our model cars are misinformation.
I've read that fire story many times over the years.
@david-green There was a Corgi factory fire in 1969. Perhaps the myth is based on that one.
