Debi wanted me to tell you what a wonderful time she had meeting everyone and being welcomed into our group. This isn't just lip service, she enjoyed it immensely. She even came away with a few items - a Matchbox horse trailer (she adores racehorses), the Bullitt Mustang (one of her all-time favorite cars), and the Brooklin Healey (many many thanks JK!). Note that she is a car gal - even met Gerry Coker, designer of the Austin-Healey 100, at an A-H meet a few years ago. And she used to own a Kawasaki motorcycle - sometimes I call her a biker chick.
What Randy said about comraderie reigning over the mere acquisition of models goes double for me. I was happy to see everyone once again!
Harv, your post overflows with enthusiasm and brimming joy! (This is not a note of criticism, please do NOT take this the wrong way but...) It reminds me of my very first article/review that ever appeared in print. I wrote a summary of my 3rd grade class's field trip to the zoo; my exuberance then was equal to your heart-felt pleasure expressed today. I'm so glad you and all the others had such a great time! 😀 😀
Here's Debi's own words:
I can't quit smiling about our trip to Chicago. I'm admiring my 'haul' from the meet. Your model car buddies are the best--welcoming, jovial, well-informed, fun, and great companions throughout the weekend. Plus they enjoy pizza and a beer or two. I had a blast and learned so much. I have a much greater appreciation of the collection and strategy for acquiring and building one's own collection. For sure, model cars attract an interesting and fascinating ilk of folks. Never a dull moment.
It was great meeting everyone there again. The people always make it a worthwhile trip from down south to the frozen north! I was so glad to meet Debi, even briefly, and hope to see her at the next one. Can't wait for 2024!
My wife Ming came with me to the Sunday show both this year and last year. Since she did not come to US until 1986, she missed seeing many of the 1:1 cars, which we buy the models. She enjoys seeing all the different style cars and all the different colors. Just as importantly, she like to meet all the people I know.
We both want to thank all the 1/43 folks who organized and worked the show.

Hey, Ed! It was good seeing you again at the show and meeting Ming. I hope she was not too bored and that you could sneak a few new models home! 🙄
