The new policy ...
This policy is only as an advantage to protect eBay itself and maybe even gets better for cheaters. Now you get to see "bidder 1" , "bidder 2", ... So prices can easly be manipulated without anyone knowing who exactly is bidding.
This precaution is taken by eBay because someone who sells the simular item would'nt make an offer by contacting the 2nd highest bidder through eBay and make a deal without eBay. I plead guilty I done it too :-$
And for the moment, I think this is only on eBay U.K.
Well, as I have thought. Why nobody sets up an alternative and we'd vote with our feet, ie listings.
Agree with Dirk, the new policy masks shill bidding. Buyer beware. Don't get caught up in a bid war.
I don't like the idea of the "cabals" either but...
They aren't the only reason prices seem to be skyrocketing. No one should ever bid something beyond a reasonable amount for a particular item. I've been caught up in a bidding war before and maybe bid $30 too much but I would never bid hundreds too much.
Maybe we're seeing some serious money come into the hobby. This can have its upside in the value of our collections. The obvious downside is in putting the higher quality models beyond the reach of most of us.
All this makes it more important to support those manufacturers and clubs that have invested so much into the hobby. If we "get 'em when they're new" we cna enjoy them and leave the rest to the speculators.
