Why are the rules for the '1:43rd scale Hall of Fame' different form the 'Hall of Fame'?
Rules: part of from the 'Hall of Fame'
"...... Qualified nominees may include entrepreneurs, designers, inventors, publishers and collectors. Election will be made by 10 individuals invited each year representative of these same groups. The identity of electors will not be disclosed here ......."
Both persons elected to this 'Hall of Fame' in 2007 are still active in the hobby:
Tony Keusseyan Founder & President Exoto
Tom Long President GMP
Rules: part of '1:43rd scale Hall of Fame'
"Nominees must no longer be active in the hobby...."
Is there a reason for this difference?

The Diecast.org board left it up to me to make our rules.
Let's face it, None of them have a clue about 1:43. Our scale goes back in history and has much to choose from. I'm not aware of sports HOF's in England but over here they are popular and limit inductees to no longer active players. In baseball, for instance, players must be out of the game for five years. I think there are enough retired and/or deceased candidates to keep us busy for many more years.
Fair enough Dick - being from the UK I am not ......
familiar with the 'Hall of Fame' concept for sporting heros. When there are cards or stickers published for eg. footballers (soccer in the US!) they depict current players. Sporting heros from the past are given, where it is merited, wider recognition and are bestowed with such honours like a knighthood/damehood, MBE etc... which they receive from Her Majesty the Queen.
Thanks for explaining Dick.

Now there's a great idea....let's make them Knights!
My first and future nomination.....
Sir John Roberts!
I know he doesn't qualify this year but I like the idea of him being a knight!
Friday Night OK? I try not to work on Friday nights!
Three cheers for Sir John Roberts hip, hip, horray! For .....
services as a purveyor of quality refinishing of handbuilt models to discerning collectors!
Now John when you receive this award please be presentable! No five o'clock shadow, breath smelling of beer and please be dressed for the occassion!
Cheers Chris

All our major sports have HOF' s over here.
Most are in the US except hockey which is, of course, in Canada. Election to these halls is considered huge and comes as a crowning achievement to a lengthy and productive career. I have visited the hockey and pro football HOF's and they are in excellent venues with impressive arrays of memorabilia. Many individual states and cities have their own HOF's. You no doubt have heard that we lost our royalty over 200 years ago so have no one to bestow knighthood save the media who do it regularly to the sports and entertainment icons. One reason to limit HOF enshrinement to retirees is to avoid being embarrassed by them at a future date. Imagine if we elected JR and he was caught in a pub after closing...scandalous!
Dick, JR would be in good company because ...
even the Royal's have been known to engage in scandalous activities both in the past and at present. Frequently the young princes' in particular have been seen leaving night clubs in a drunken state!
One thing about JR's award is he earned it!
Cheers!!!!
