This is the way I did most of my model photos in the past, when I was a younger woman...ha ha...and deep into my collecting passion. I used photos for backgrounds as large as 16x20 (for 1/18 scale models), to the small 1/64.

In my Brooklin (1/43 scale) in Illinois series, I mostly use 5x7 and 8x10 photos and an occasional 11x14 photo for background. One exception is a 16x20 photo I use when pairing a model car with a model airplane.

....I've used photos as backdrops a few times; it can be a bit tricky - trying to line up "perspectives"  and shadows.  If done correctly, like Patty's, it can be quite convincing.
