Racing Champions bought the Ertl Company in 1999 to form Racing Champions Ertl (later RC2 Corporation). They combined Racing Champions' popular 1/64 models with Ertl's Nascar, classic farm toys and American Muscle diecast in 1/64 and 1/18.
Here are three of the Ertl Collectibles, American Muscle 1/64 examples.

Wow.... I remember those, which weren't too bad at the time. The problem was that not all, perhaps not any, were actually in 1/64. Usually, they were a bit larger.

Chris, I think that 1/64 back then was very loosely used as a scale. Lesney/Matchbox was notorious for it as was HotWheels. These, I think are closer to 1/56 although I have not checked actual scale. Loved the opening engines and overall detail.

@chris Some of the Racing Champions were also a bit smaller than 1/64 scale. I still have several from back then with scales ranging from 1/60 to 1/70. I also remember a C2 Corvette in 1/53 scale and an early Thunderbird in 1/55 scale. Strange what I remember.
Later in the mid-2000s Ertl produced several 1/64 scale cars with more details including plated window surrounds and chassis details. I have several of them. My motivation was buying cars for use with my 1/64 scale model trains.

- Yes, they did. I have several myself; at that time, those and "Hot Wheel's 100" were about the best 1/64 models one could purchase.
