Yes! 😬 😬 😬 Some models have become so valuable that fakes are created and they're fooling collectors. I thought this 9-minute video was interesting.
It is too bad there appears to be dishonest people in the hobby.
IMHO the repro "vintage" Dinky Toys and Matchbox open the door for dishonest vendors and also negatively affect the prices of old originals to a degree.
I have no problem with honest and legitimate models and reproductions. It the mis-representations and un-truthfulness that is the very negative aspect of this
Very sorry to see this but I am not surprised. Every collector hobby seems to have this disease. Thanks Chris.
There are fakes all over now - Dinky and Tekno, etc, as well.  Corgi maybe with their red spot wheels. I don't buy any Mint Teknos online anymore, too many reproduction decals out there.
This all started before the reissue Corgi and Dinky appeared from China, so I really don't blame them.
The video shows how to make a very rare variation - (un)luckily the glue did not hold! These were obviously made to fool people. Â
The other big issue is repainted, older diecast. A collector or restorer might do it for their own amusement, and not meant to fake anyone. But some folks are excellent at it.
However, as soon as the unit is sold off, the next buyer has no idea if they are not marked in some way. Thus the 'fake' is sold again as a real unit, all by honest people... I have a few Tekno like that... Â

Yes, an interesting point.
