As expected, MINI GT has scheduled a November release for their "road-race version"  of their nicely done 1/64 Lincoln Capri.  This Carrera Panamerican road-race Lincoln looks really good, very authentic.

I hope the final iteration does NOT have skirts and BETTER rims but easy-peezy  fixes if need be.

Great looking Carrera Panamerica race car Chris. I have several 1/43 scale entries but none in this scale. This Lincoln would be a nice addition.

Even from a non-race enthusiasts view, it seems odd that a team would leave fender skirts in place when weight and quick tyre changes must be imperative. This, added to a rail set-up with classic US diesel locomotive, would look great!

@charles-rockett Yes, the skirts will have to go, one way or another. 😏 😏  For many years I owned 1954 Lincolns, including a hardtop, but knew nothing about US, early to mid 1950s, involvement in Mexican road races prior to buying them.

Many US makes participated, but, for a few years, Lincoln dominated. The 1952-1954 Lincolns were fast, well built and over-engineered, which made them durable.

Many car enthusiasts are simply unaware of La Carrera Panamerican Mexican Road Races.  And even fewer know that all 1952-'54 Lincolns actually used GM Hydromatic transmissions.

As stated above, I'm not a fan of motor sports - the speed - but I am a fan of Lincoln and especially the '52 through '54 and '55 Capris. They are sober yet elegant designs. But added to this, there is a glamour and thrill around motor sport quite separate from the speed itself, and the Carrera Panamerica road races, with the sun, sweat and dust along with these dressed-down glamour cars have a very special place in automotive - and Lincoln - culture.  Thanks for posting all these evocative pictures.

@chris

Thanks for pictures. I was not familiar with this part of automotive racing history.

If you are looking for some 43rd scale Panamerica race cars and if you are willing to built resin kits,  do an Ebay search for Arena models 1:43.  I bought a number of these but built them all stock. Just some, 1952 Chrysler sedan, and club coupe,  1953 Chevrolet Belair,  1954 Dodge Royal hardtop,  and 1949 Lincoln EL.  I was not as pleased with the Lincoln as I found the front clip was too long but solved that by grafting it onto a Road Champs Mercury of the same vintage.   Now I see they have added a 1953 Ford Mainline, a Studebaker and a Hudson coupe.   All kits from an Italian supplier.

I did a few things with the Chryslers, being a stock, not race car fan.

1952 Chryslers X 4 #1

1952 Chryslers X4

 And the Dodge

1954 Dodge #2
1954 Dodge #1

And the Chevrolet

1953 Chevrolet Belair #1
1953 Chevrolet Belair #2

And the highly modified Lincoln, showing also a donor Mercury

1949 Lincoln EL #1
1949 Lincoln El

Thanks for all the pics & info Jack. Too bad production had to end that way. I agree these are better looking than the Arena's releases. Like you, I'm eager to get my greedy little hands  on MINI GT's road-race Lincolns and of course the FIRST thing I'll do is cut those skirts out. Also, I may have to swap out those rims... these pre-production sample rims look OK  but not great.

Then... I'll re-do that interior. 🤔
