Just popping over from the 43rd scale forum but I was recently gifted this group of 7 small Tootsietoys All seem to be quite old but in remarkably good condition. Only the treads for the bulldozer and the head of the driver are missing. Can anyone fill me in on the age, rarity, etc of these toys which measure about 3 inches long.

Someone gave you a very nice gift, John. My Tootsietoy (older term "Tootsie Toy") collection has been growing through the years. Here's a little taste:
If you click on this picture and enlarge it, I think you will see different versions of several of your gifts. I see that you have a tow truck with the "come along" apparatus that I've never seen before. I like it!
Your toys date from the mid 20's into the 30's, with the green pickup truck probably the oldest, and the bulldozer probably the youngest; the last also stayed in production for a longer period of time. For a really intensive background, which includes pictures of all Tootsietoys, find a copy of James Wieland & Edward Force, TOOTSIETOYS: WORLD'S FIRST DIECAST MODELS. The second edition dates to the 1980s and is my favorite. These are readily available on used book sites. You also might enjoy seeing the many Tootsietoys that show up on eBay. Prices vary a lot.
One warning: Tootsietoys are addictive! Have fun. David Holcombe
Thanks for the detailed update. Did the bulldozer come with rubber tracks? Are these reproduced now?

Yes, John, and here it is:
It's parked beside a Tootsie Renault tank, and both use the same size tread. I see these treads on eBay pretty often, but a simple internet search for "Tootsietoy parts rubber treads" will give you lots of choices. They aren't that expensive. I think the figure is also available, but I'm not sure. Happy hunting!
Just opened my TOOTSIE TOYS book and found this, which I'm posting to give you more information and correct an error I made:
I apologize for my wrong date. Have fun!
