Really nice looking DeSotos. I love the colors on the '47 and '53 in particular.
all stunners, thanks John
Poor little '47 orphan. Born the same year as me. Oh, OK, I'll adopt the cute lil fella!!
GREAT pics, ALL John, thanks for posting them!
Love those DeSotos. Thinking about it, I have two orphans in my garage, an Imperial and a Thunderbird. Over the years I have owned several orphans including a Plymouth, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Studebaker, Pierce Arrow, Corvair and Austin Healey.
@perrone1 Speaking from experience, you might be adopting an antique car but in reality they end up adopting you.
@bob-jackman I'm going to fight you a bit Bob about calling "Thunderbird" an orphan. Afterall, Ford is still with us, and Thunderbird was never a stand-alone make. Am I missing something? 🤔 🤔 🤔
@chris I guess it's a matter of opinion. You are correct that Thunderbird was always a division of Ford and sold in Ford dealerships however it always had it's own division away from those working on Fords. In the case of my 63, they were built in Wixom along with only Lincolns.
So what's your opinion of Corvair?
"So, what's your opinion of Corvair?"
Well, technically I'd say that Corvair in NOT an orphan, however I know thousands would disagree. I suppose I adhere to the strict meaning of the term as defined on Wikipedia.
@bob-jackman Not at all, they simply define terms and words like any other dictionary on earth.
For example, Wikipedia would define a "PIN" as a Personal Identification Number. However, millions say, "Pin number," which of course, is grammatically incorrect. They're actually saying, "....number, number."
Thanks John for this interesting DeSoto presentation. Thanks also to all that entered into the orphan car discussion. Interesting!
