For me, the '49 Cadillac was one of the most beautiful cars ever. I like the '49 Buick, but I love the '49 Cadillac. The Cadillac had a better drivetrain with a newly introduced OHV V-8 engine and a 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The Buick had its long standing straight eight with a 2-speed Dyna-Flow (aka Dyna-SLOW) transmission. Motor Trend Magazine awarded the '49 Cadillac, as its very first "Car of the Year."

I agree. To me the 1949 Cadillac was the year Cadillac really was the Standard of the World. Nothing came close to its style or its engineering in the luxury field.

Sorry Buick, but I'd really rather have a 1949 Cadillac.  In fact, it's my favorite Cadillac of all time.  I'm particularly a fan of the fastback Club Coupe.

John Bono summed it up nicely.
