Just got a mental image........ 🙂
FORD
I like them both, but a slight edge to the Edsel.

I'll make this clear, Georgie boy, this has for me, never been about your right to hold and express a different opinion to my own or to anybody else's. Language has so many words that its like mixing paint colours on an artist's pallet, that can be used to create many different shades of meaning. You, apparently, choose to limit yourself to using just the one, the one that is probably high end brutal we use to describe something really awful, like the inside of hell's hand basket or the mind of a despot.
Ugly deeds come from ugly thoughts - so do you think car designers created something that they knew to be "ugly"?
I think you actually revel in child like response to the attention your misuse engenders.
Something of the behavior of a truculent adolescent.
Some weeks ago I said that I would not raise this matter again and I would not have, but you decided in your apparent excitement of the moment included me by inference on your shit list of detractors - unacceptable.
Ok, so now you've brought me out from underneath the covers, I will now, return to a world of silence on this particular matter and in further defence of your right to misuse the language without shame and conscience.
So similar! I like the Ford a tad better.
I prefer the Ford and feel a bit sorry for the Edsel...
It always struck me as being a bit of a desperation special. Ford must have really wanted to ditch the name altogether but instead went for the 'Nifty Thrifty' label which immediately relegated the car to bargain basement status. I quite like the rearlights as they look as though they came from something else and that side trim looks like an aimless afterthought. The car has a certain odd charm which I like but it wouldn't be the first thing in my fantasy garage...and neither would the Ford.
Ha! good one!!
Much of a muchness really & too similar to be concerned either way, Nah, bugger it, the Ford then.
Cool, John and nicely put.
Bruce, I really think you're over reacting to this whole "ugly" term thing. To answer your question about whether I think auto makers made ugly cars knowing they would be ugly, is a resounding NO.
You pointed out to me that I couldn't use the word "ugly" to describe a car, and I merely said that if one can say a car is "beautiful", then surely they (or me in this case) should be able to also refer to it as "ugly".
I reminded you that either adjective (beautiful or ugly) is a descriptive word that says how one SEES a particular car. The main thing to bear in mind though is that because we are all different in what we like and see, what is beautiful to one person can be ugly to another, and vice-versa.
Doesn't make either of us right or wrong. And for the record, I do not deliberately post anything to see if I can or will get some kind of reaction from someone.
When a question is asked, "Which car or year do you like better?", any of us who chooses to respond, should be able to be honest in their opinion as to whether one car over another is desirable or not to them.
And I think Bruce, if you are honest with yourself, you will admit that you've seen cars through the decades that just simply knocked your socks off as being drop-dead gorgeous (aka beautiful) and you've also thought some cars to just be the opposite.
One final thing, on this thread "60 FORD or 60 EDSEL", our Forum friend Barry Levittan answered the question like this, "A picture of the '60 Edsel is in the dictionary next to the definition of 'ugly'". And poster Tim Kubiak said, "Neither. Both got hit with the ugly stick".
P. S. My name is George, not Georgie boy.
