Camelot, draped in black and grieving.  I remember how quiet everything seemed that day.

For a fascinating read, check out Clint Hill's books:

Mrs. Kennedy and Me

Five Days in November

My Travels With Mrs. Kennedy

Five Presidents

Hill was a Secret Service agent assigned to Jackie. He worked on details for five presidents.

I hope the 9/11 attacks will not be forgotten.

...in many respects, it's already happening.   Time marches on and memories fade - how many recall Pear Harbor, or V-E Day, or the moon landing?   Practically no one mentions the end of WW I, or when McKinley was shot or Garfield was assassinated.

Time marches on and memories fade....  😔 😔 😔

I doubt anybody who frequents our little space on the web remembers the assassinations of McKinley and Garfield. I guess there are still a few people alive who remember the end of WWI, and more than a few still remember the end of WW II. I remember exactly where I was the day JFK was shot, I was 5 years old and in Kindergarten, also remember watching the funeral on TV. I also remember exactly where I was on 9/11, I was at work on the sixth floor of the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, the building was evacuated and everyone sent home shortly after the plane hit the Pentagon.

That's precisely my point - with the assassinations of Garfield and McKinley in 1881 and 1901 respectively, and the end of WWI in 1918 - it's a mathematical certainly no one is around any longer to give firsthand accounts, thus...   How many now even mention it or even care?

For decades, people remembered where they were when Lincoln was shot, but who today even speaks about April 14, 1865 - or even knows?

As John noted, we are a product of our times; every generation will carry the memories & impressions formed during their time.    Soon enough November 22, 1963, January 28, 1986, and September 11, 2001 will be just dates in a history book.    Times marches on.  😌 😌

Well said. And even sadder, it may well be that people won't bother to read about history, much less check the veracity of the stories.

@perrone1 Exactly!

It's actually more appropriate, these days, to say, "Scan the QR code"  or "Follow this link"  or "Download the APP."

By any chance did you ever live in Cypress, California ? Your name is somewhat familiar to me.

Really?      Wow-wee, pretty awesome.  By all accounts Mr. Hill was a true gentleman and an excellent agent.

Wow, Lloyd. These are excellent and insightful reads. The man has a lot of credibility. His anecdote about JFK and Bobby giving him explicit instructions on how to accompany Jackie to Greece in 1961 is illuminating.

It could have had something to do with his on-going indictment, so, bad optics, or something else they knew.
