Very interesting. It is a good reminder of how little the average earner made back then; but all relative of course. I recall making $2.43 per hour back in 1972 at age 20; which was a good wage at the time. I recall buying a brand new Toyota pickup then for $2725...including the extra few bucks for a rear bumper and radio. I also recall that a case of beer was $2.65 at the time.......priorities.....lol.
Yes indeed, a good reminder of how it was. I always chuckle today when the younger generation will look at those old prices and thing we were so lucky because they were so low. But they fail to realize that the average annual incomes back then, corresponded with those "so called low" prices. My Dad was making just a tad over $10,000 a year back in 1972 at his job at Hamm's Brewery, and he'd been employed there for 20 years at that time. That salary today wouldn't be minimum wage.
