A month or two ago I posted a couple of photos taken by a dear friend and photographer, and today I received additional photos related to the Whippet, and a backstory for the photo of the pup whizzing on the tire of the car (first photo below). It turns out the owner of the Whippet likes to tweak folks a bit, when this car and his Model T are on display, and the pup is actually a ceramic pup which he positions in that manner for a laugh. I do like his sense of humor. He also posts signs inviting people to sit in his vintage cars, something these two lads took to heart (following photos). They remind me of my experiences with vintage cars at the same age, though I wasn't nearly as photogenic as these two munchkins. (Original photography by Hugh Holland)
Too bad it wasn't a whippet wizzing on a Whippet.
It has got to be fun and exciting to sit behind the wheel of beautifully kept/restored vintage automobile at any age.
what a great way to hopefully spark kids interest in vintage cars.
I believe these pictures were taken in Redondo Beach at the Friday Captain Kid's Cruise In (formerly Ruby's Cruise). I haven't seen this car, but I have seen his Model T in which he allowed anyone interested to sit in and enjoy.
@geoff-jowett I believe it will have some impact, as it did with me. I was only eight when first exposed to these old treasures and the pure delight I felt when seeing one, in any condition, never left me. Let's hope it does the same for these two boys:
@pete-rovero This would make sense, as this was part of the stomping ground for this outdoor photographer. I'll ask the archivist if he has any further information about the location and date.
Years ago I sold a 1939 Chevrolet Opera Coupe to a friend. Just before I sold it, I put a set of B F Goodrich Silvertown white walls on it. The friend had a little dog who came out to the shop each day while he worked on his old cars. Everyday the first thing the dog would do was to go over to the car and lift his leg on those tires.
@michaeldetorrice When I take my cars to shows, I always let people, kids included, sit in them to have their picture taken. You never know when you might get someone interested in the hobby and the same is true with the model cars.
I do the same thing with my Vette for the same reason...@michaeldetorrice When I take my cars to shows, I always let people, kids included, sit in them to have their picture taken. You never know when you might get someone interested in the hobby.
