An Unexpected Visitor.

oh gawd I'd give anything to have him/her over here in my Melbourne suburb. Pigeons are everywhere here.

Gorgeous. Here's a red-shouldered hawk who really liked our old place.

And a couple of ospreys that liked an even older place. 

@paul-rouffa do think he/she would be interested in a move to a warmer climate Paul? Seriously there is that much food around here it would have trouble taking off!

I get hawks and once in a while eagles. But I have a Cooper's Hawk that frequents the property in back of the house and keeps the mice & rat population in check with a local copperhead. The Cooper's Hawk:

Before retiring I lived in Ottawa Ontario for 18 years.  My high-rise apartment had a large balcony with a fantastic view of downtown including Parliament Hill.  The balcony was home to generations of pigeons and twice a year I would attempt to clean it up only to find one or two new nests with eggs that I could not bring myself to disturb.  On the plus side the birds were good entertainment for my cats, noses up against the glass.  I once bought a plastic owl and attached it to the railing but those city pigeons were too smart for that trick.
