For me personally, the biggest years (number of automobile replicas in various scales I have) are 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959. There are a variety of car brands by model companies in different scales and I am delighted with each one.

Those years were a kind of transition for American manufacturers and the replicas tend to reflect that. I cannot pick just one favorite .... they all look great in different ways.

I've never inventoried my collection for dates of manufacture, though I display them in year order. My favorite years for autos are the thirties and forties but my models don't coincide with that since they have made more of the subsequent years. My biggest collection segment is Corvettes and, at the time FM and DM were sending them to me for reviews, I had every single one. Not so any more but the most prevalent decade in that display seems to be the sixties. Mints went crazy with 1963 and 1967 models.

My personal favorite real car years range is 1954 to 1964.  Then after that, I like the years 1969 to 1973.

My model collecting range was self set at 1940 to 1970, American cars only and no Corvettes (not a fan of them).  Having these guidelines in place allowed me to be disciplined with spending money on the hobby and never taking food off the table to enjoy it.

Admittedly, I did go outside the '40 to '70 range a few times, but only because a certain model car had sentimental value to me.  So, I have a '34 Chrysler Airflow, a 37 Studebaker Dictator, and a couple of '39 Fords.  On the end of the spectrum (my '70 cutoff), I a couple of '72 Buicks, a '73 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and a couple '71 Pontiac GTO's.

Since the mints no longer produce 1:24 scale, I've pretty much considered my 1:24 collection complete.  And though I'm not a huge fan of 1:18 scale, I do have 27 models in that scale, but again only because I like the cars.

As for 1:43 scale,  I've never went there and even though there are many cars I love that are in that scale, I just won't submit to them, as they are too small for my taste.

I stay within 1925 to 1959, only U.S. cars, trucks, and motorcycles, all 1/24 scale. I lean pretty heavily on the ‘50’s and I actually have everything I’ve wanted save for a couple that are way out of range financially.

love em all and have em all!  From the earliest brass era, including the1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, right up to very latest Ferrari. All countries, and many also varieties of other wheeled vehicles.

@geoff-jowett Geoff I agree with you, only that I mainly only have American cars.  My range is from the 20's to the 2000's.

@georgeschire George, I'm curious who made the 73 Cutlass model? I'm asking because I have been looking for a 73 for years as I has a 1/1 73.

OMG Mr. Jackman, I'm sorry!  I typed the wrong year.  It should have been 1972.  Now, where's the White-out?

Those are nice, George. I'd buy a '73 in a heartbeat.

If my collection has a date cluster, it is just by chance. Possibly the 1950s. I collect LeMans Winners (I have all, 1923 to 2024), Formula 1 Winners (Again, all 1950 to 2024), all Jaguars and anything that I have owned or desired, full sized. Oldest is likely the Cugnot (1769). In the 1980s I tried to get at least one model for every year. I did not succeed. It is interesting to see how many of our members have selective collections.

Since there are usually at least one (or more) automobile models I like from probably about 1900 to 2026, I can usually find something I like and would enjoy having as a model or diecast. I think my earliest model is of a car from 1905 or so and my latest is from perhaps from about/around circa 2016.

@jkuvakas I loved my 73 Cutlass as it was the last year before the government mandated ugly bumpers. The only reason I sold the car was that I took a job which required a large car to travel in with a big trunk for sample cases.
