We had a woodpecker that liked to hammer on the gutter. You'd think they'd notice the difference between metal and wood.

Yeah, I know all about those woodpeckers.

One of those little b*****ds picked one of our prized Queen palm trees for his feeding ground at our old house.  Try as we would we couldn't get rid of him.

Eventually the holes that he bored into the tree filled with vermin and the tree toppled over . . . dead.

@kocour

A while back, we had a home on a heavily wooded lot. The house had redwood siding and vey nice, redwood Anderson windows. A huge woodpecker decided he would find bugs in the wood, and started literally shredding the window frames. If I was at home, I'd scare him off but he did most of his damage while we were at work.

Finally, one Saturday, I heard him pounding away on the house. I'd had enough. I quietly snuck up on him, and took him out with my pellet rifle. It was a beautiful bird, and I felt bad about it, but what else could I do? One of my ex's friends got all upset that I'd killed a bird. I said, Hey.... it aint like I got up at daylight, put on camo and face paint, and went hunting for him. He was destroying my freakin' house!

I've had a few homes on wooded lots. It's enough to make one come to hate mother nature!
