Last week I made my annual drive to Scottsdale to attend the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction. I didn't take a lot of pictures, just a few of the cars that interest me. Muscle cars, pony cars, customs, foreign exotics, street rods, and trucks abound. I counted at least a dozen 2010 or newer Bentleys (coupes, convertibles, and SUVs) up for auction. All very nice, but I was looking for the more common full-size American cars that used to roam our streets. So, with that said, here's some of the cars that caught my eye.
1954 Oldsmobile Starfire. Check out the steering wheel.
1958 Oldsmobile Ninety-eight, sold for $50K
1956 Chevrolet Nomad, sold for $59K
1958 Chevrolet Impala, sold for $160K
1958 Pontiac Chieftain Safari, sold for $150K
1955 Oldsmobile 88
1964 Rambler Classic, sold for $8,500
1962 Thunderbird Sports Roadster in Chestnut, one of my favorites. $40K
1966 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser
1969 Hurst Olds
1969 AMX-400 Customized by George Barris for the TV show Banacek, 1972-1974
1970 Plymouth Superbird. You can see the roofline differences between the Superbird and the Road Runner. Superbird uses fill panels to make the backlite smaller. There were six or seven Superbirds up for auction, no 1969 Dodge Daytonas!
1970 Road Runner
1971 Mustang Boss 351Â Â
Two multi-million-dollar Bugattis

And these were my three favorites. These went up for auction earlier in the week.
#3. 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass with only 104 miles, an new car for $27K
#2. 1970 Chevrolet Caprice sport sedan. Sold for $20K
#1. 1970 Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan. Less than 10K miles, sold for $11K!! This is one I would have bid on. Just perfect!
Â
Nice photos. Were you tempted to bid on any? The last time I went to one of these auctions, I brought a friend to make sure I did not raise my arm at the wrong time.

Hi Ed. No, I didn't do any bidding, just looking, although I would have been tempted to bid on the gold 1970 Impala. I went on Thursday, that car crossed the auction block on Monday. Lucky for me!Â
beautiful cars all, thanks Pete. I was actually going to ask for more details on that Olds. Talk about a perfect color!
WOW! You know Pete, that '54 and '58 Oldsmobile that sold for those prices knocks my socks off. Unbelievable! Incredible beauties! Thanks for your great pics. Â

You're welcome, guys. Hey George, I looked, but couldn't find a single 1957 Oldsmobile. Maybe next year...
thanks for all the dazzling pics Pete.......it had to be overwhelming to see that all spread out before you
Â
Many fine cars for sure; I'll take the '58 Impala convertible please (I remember when you couldn't give away 1958 Chevrolets ). But that 1970 Impala 4-door hardtop intrigues me. It's a TREAT to see period-correct "double stripe" tires on late 1960's/early '70's cars.
Thanks for the pics Pete. 😎Â
I was watching the show. I also watched the Mecum Car Auctions. I'm like a kid pressing his nose against the glass of a candy store window, except mine is the TV screen and the candy has four wheels!
Dang! No Yugo GV’s?
