@100ford2003  Yep!   We're paying attention.... on another thread we're discussing the fact that some joker paid $93,000 for a '94 Cadillac.     That's, well....  just nuts!  😳 🤪 😳

I stopped watching years ago. IMO it's geared for the country club set with extra deep pockets...no place for the typical car guy.

@sizedoesmatter I agree John, way out of my price range. Mostly trailer queens that never really get driven and enjoyed. I do watch from time to time, only to see the cool cars.😊

I quit watching it because it seemed to increasingly be focused on rich people showing off and the prices were often so ridiculously high that I quietly (perhaps unfairly) wondered about the integrity of the process.

"I quietly wondered about the integrity of the process."

- There are usually "deals"  during the inception of these auctions.   From what I've witnessed, it's not so much a problem with integrity (although MANY vehicles look much nicer on television than in person ) as it is with "human nature;"  as we've been discussing on other treads.

- Buyers get swept up in the moment and/or they're showing off and/or they're fools with money (of which there are more than you may think ).   It's the showing off   that gets me.   To impress others, some guys will bid high KNOWING they'll be outbid - I've seen it.

- I'll never forget selling my '59 Cadillac CDV...MANY of the guys who came to "look at the car"  were middle-aged, divorced dudes who arrived with younger women.   They didn't have the money but wanted to impress their girlfriends - a complete waste of my time.

Footnote:

- An older man, who looked like he fell off a bar stool, bought the car within one hour of seeing it.   He reached into his pocket and pulled out cash - done!    😀 😀 😀

I don't watch as much as I use to and haven't so far this year. A LOT of truth in all that each of you say, above. And along the lines that Chris is talking about is a consideration - the early days of the auction are set aside for the far more inexpensive auto with some miles and time on it and they go for reasonable numbers, some for REAL resonable numbers. The 'catch' is the big commissions attached, sellers fees AND buyers fees!

I like seeing the cars when I know it's on TV but it's way above my pay grade. Mecum may be a little better and Mecum's, "Gone Farmin' Tractor Auction, is the real deal where GREAT deals can be, and are, made!

HA!   I've never even heard of that, but if farm tractors are your thing, then I suppose something like that would be heaven!      You'll recall, I stayed away from collecting scale tractors - they're VERY cool - but it's a slippery slope!    😮 😯

@geno

I watch only to see the cars. To me, BJ is a joke and has been for years. I can't believe how uninformed they are with all the facts that are available. They talked about a Boyd Coddington coupe and proudly proclaimed that he started his shop in '77 in Cypress, CA. BS, I worked in Cypress starting in '73 and they weren't there. From my travels I knew they were in Stanton. How can you be so inept ?

Gone Farmin' debuted about 2014 or so and has two or three auctions per year. But not just tractors, they auction off all sorts of farm equipment including trucks, cars and implements. Real bargains are the norm.
