Nice to see in John's video, their using Eero Saarinen's G.M. Technical Center as an advertising backdrop. It was absolute cutting-edge style when opened in 1956, and remains classic American Moderne to this day.
@jkuvakas I think that's part of it.... I seem to recall seeing more streamline stainless (or brightwork ) and lots of hide-away-gadgets. And of course, he had one of the best views of the moat a.k.a. lakes. The fact all that water was incorporated into the design theme is (was ), in itself, a monumental architectural achievement.
Yeah, you got me there! I can still VIVIDLY recall GM-Pontiac PR folks trying (in vain ) to explain why sales just haven't, "...caught on yet." They unconvincingly attempted to explain away every dismal sales fact, but never once uttered the word, "ugly." 😏 😏
