Cars in Cuba, Part 1 of 2

I recently returned from a visit to Cuba. As most of you know, the importation of American cars into Cuba stopped in early 1960's after Fidel Castro took power and a communist government took hold. Since then Cuban people have continued to maintain and modify American cars from late 1940's through early 1960's for personal and business purposes. Many are used today as taxis and for providing tours of the cities. Here are photos of many of them with my best estimates of the year of the cars. Due to the number of photos, I will divide this into two posts. I hope you enjoy the photos. Early 50s Chevrolet 1953 Chevrolet 1954 Chevrolet 1956 Chevrolet 1958 Chevrolet 1959 Chevrolet - This car is a four door convertible. Someone either started with a convertible and added the rear doors or started with a four door hardtop and cut the top off. It definitely stands out in pink. 1960 Chevrolet 1957 Pontiac Early 60s Pontiac - This is the latest American car I saw. GREAT pics, Ed. Cuba is on my wanna visit list. I noticed that every car has replacement wheels. But that's probably the least of what was replaced.

The Cuban people are so clever regarding how they can keep this old iron going.
