During the first years of the new millennium we visited Wales and Scotland each year and I had some great jet-fighter encounters.

The first one was during one of our first B&B's in the southern parts of Wales, where Royal Navy jet-fighters practice.

I still remember seeing (and hearing) the after-burners in the night when they passed over.

Some days later we decided to go up the Sugar Loaf, which is a mountain in Wales.

Jet-fighters could be heard, but when we got to the top of the mountain, we started wondering where on earth they were.

Looking at the sky until our eyes hurt, we just could not see them.

Guess what ?

We were actually higher than the jets !!

We found them alright, flying in the valleys below us.....

Can you imagine how that must have been ?

A year later we visited Scotland and during our first pass through the Highlands, with steep hills on either side, jets passed by and people started cheering....

Unfortunate, these things happen to quick to get your cameras out.

attached is a reproduction of a nice painting by Barrie Clark, which we bought in a small town in Wales.
