O M G !! I thought that I was the only one! I wear some pretty high-end hearing aids. But certain TV shows offer terrible audio and every DVD requires a different set of input balance. We have a stereo TV and additional 'sound bar'. Before each movie I spend in inordinate amount of time adjusting the audio.
They come on with the THX nonsense; loud and clear but then the actors talk to the actresses and I, almost always have to say, "What did he say?" ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! JayBee, you touched a sensitive point! ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

It gave me choices of HDMI (I got dat!) Dolby, Surround Sound, stereo, DTS, PS4 XT5 and Coupe De Ville. Nuttin' for mono. So I made some changes while the Shirlinator watched her morning shows. I'll check back in this afternoon to see if the changes I made...stuck!

uh oh.....put it back where it was......then play something....a movie or tv series that you might typically watch at night.......WITH THE VIDEO PLAYING....right click on screen and see if a choice appears that offers you "Mono"
