I can’t find a lot of info on a model that I’m kind of obsessed with. I can’t really pinpoint exactly why, but something about it hits me. I have the blood red model which I really like, but I find the crème irresistible. It rarely comes up for sale, but when I do see them they are three to four hundred and more. There must be something more to this story that may explain why they are so dear. Anyone?

It's another scenario where the 'repaint' came out way after the original model. The Rubellite Red & Black model was issued 7/1/1999. It sold really well. The Cigarette Cream pickup followed in 4/19/2010. It didn't sell well since so many already had the original model.
Since it was sold out, the Cream version became rare and more valuable. Those who have one tend to hold onto it and when they sell, they sell for a premium.

Kevin, like you I have the red one and didn't feel like I needed the cream version. Tony's explanation covers it nicely IMO.

@perrone1 I may have asked before Tony, but I’m a little confused about what happens to DM’s surplus models. I would imagine the Mints produce a goodly run of for instance, the crème pickup. It doesn’t sell well for the reasons you give. Do the unsold models end up in a warehouse somewhere, are they sold to retail outlet stores, scrapped? I’ve always been curious about this because of the way the models were originally sold.

They usually sold all models. If a specific run is slow, they would not order more from China and assembly was cut off and the tooling put back in storage. That was surely the case with the Cigarette Cream Ford. Sales were slow but they sold whatever supply was on hand in Connecticut for however long it took.@perrone1 I may have asked before Tony, but I’m a little confused about what happens to DM’s surplus models. its really nice in that color, now you're getting me obsessed Kevin! Heres one now, but not for me at that price. My red/black original will have to do for now.

@kevins yep looks like we'll be waiting awhile Kevin. BTW my 1930s Model A Good Humor truck arrived in perfect condition. Love it!
