Statements made by drivers after an accident are often bizarre. Here are an interesting few.

Only speculation on my part, if these statements were made immediately after the accident, some may be have not yet gathered their composure. Would explain why these statements might seem nonsensical or contradictory.

the well worn phrase, "this is gotta be real, no-one could make this stuff up" has to apply here surely.

great stuff, thanks David

These are old, I've heard and loved them before but haven't heard them in a long time. Supposedly true; they were said to come from auto insurance company files. Thanks for resurrecting them David!

Rodney Dangerfield joke.  My wife crashed into a tree. She said it wasn't her fault. She honked.

I'm sure these and many variations are heard often by drivers to their insurance companies and the police.

My insurance guy told me one time when we were chatting about "rear-end" collisions, the guy who hits the car in front of him usually says, "He stopped too fast, so I couldn't stop in time".  Of course we all know that in most instances a rear-end collision would be avoidable if drivers simply followed the lesson they were told while taking drivers training.  That being, "For every 10 miles of speed you are going, you need to be one car length behind the car in front of you, in order to be able to avoid hitting that car if it slows-down or stops in front of you".

Simple math folks, if your buzzing down the highway at 60mph, you need to be 6 car lengths behind the car you are following.  Sadly, on a daily basis I don't see this being the situation.  Cars are doing 60mph and are less than 1 car length behind the car they are following.  It's mind boggling to me!

When I was rear ended in my Explorer sending my spare tire sliding down the road on spur from 270 to 495 in DC.  That is when the spare was under the truck. The young lady gets out of her car runs over looks at her car jammed half way under my SUV and says I’m sorry I’m going to be late for my exam I wasn’t  watching.  On her way to Uni of MD.

Collectively these statements had to add up to a huge amount in court judgements.
