I recently posted in the 1/24 Forum my disquiet about ebays excessive and inconsistent postage costs, and their slow service, to Australia from the U.S. My comments were under a topic heading which alerted all to reductions on Automodellos 1/24 ebay listings, and the prohibitive ebay postal charges to Australia.
Jim Cowen has emailed me re an alternative to ebay postage. "For our international buyers, I encourage them to not use the Global Shipping, but instead have the item or especially items consolidated and shipped direct by Diecasm using FedEx International. I had a buyer cancelled their 3 Automodello and rebuy via Diecasm that saved them almost $90 in shipping and the prices were the same."
Hopefully helpful. I have a number of Automodello 1/24s and 1/43s and they are outstanding models.
I have just posted on a separate thread that e-bay now have a policy whereby if you are searching for something on a different continent (postal zone), only sellers who are registered with their Global Shipping Program will appear in your search. If you specifically cite a seller on a different continent (postal zone) and they're not registered, their page will appear with no items for sale. I even had this between France and Germany! One must log into the country one is searching from - and alter your VPN geo-location to see what is available. And I have had this verrified by e-bay staff themselves!
thats incredible Charles. Clearly an outstanding example of the monopoly type of power position ebay are now in!I have just posted on a separate thread that e-bay now have a policy whereby if you are searching for something on a different continent (postal zone), only sellers who are registered with their Global Shipping Program will appear in your search. Good info Geoff! That was very nice of Jim to alert you to it!
I agree and as a Canadian buyer I have recently started avoiding Global Shipping vendors whenever possible. I buy multiple items outside Canada and then get told that the seller cannot combine items into one box because the Global Shipping system will not permit it. This has occurred with various ebay sellers, who say they can do nothing about it....and I believe they are being truthful. A recent example is my purchase of three vintage Matchbox pieces, which arrived in three separate little boxes....all charged duties and separate handling fees. Never again. To me it is nothing more than a systematic money grab.
