I don't understand body piercing of any kind or tattoos for that matter. While I was in boot camp in the Navy, over two thirds of my company came back from liberty with Tattoos and bleeding arms.

I'm no doubt just old fashioned to a fault but I gotta say that I find tattoos on women to be a total turn off.

Same here - not even the USN could compel me to tattoo myself & piercings came along way after the Navy for me.
BTW - when/where did you serve? I was USS Nimitz (CVN 68) from pre-comm unit thru my 3rd Med cruise (1974-1978).

Jack, I agree with you completely. Terry, I was in between 1959 and 1963. I never served sea duty as I went through hospital corps school and ended up as a Fleet Marine on two Marine bases stateside.

Both of my uncles were USN also, about the same timeframe as you. One a submariner & the other a shore duty sailor. My dad was Army (Korea).
I’ve been a DoD contractor supporting the USN for the past 44 years - Go Navy!

Say what you will, I bet those tatoo artists are laughing all the way to the bank. In addition to the original cost tatoos also need renewing periodically to prevent fading.

@kocour Unbelievable that anyone could be interested in this, but it's a huge trend. I wonder what will happen when it goes out of style? Much better to have a silk screen T-shirt make your statement. Lol.
