Thanks for pictures of the cars and the signs. They look like jet planes without wings, which was probably the intent.

OMG David - you've touched a nerve with me - BUT a wonderful 'Car Nerve'!
When I first saw black & white photos of the Firebird I, I was 7 and in love with that machine. Then I saw the Firebird II and, love at first sight, I forgot all a bout my puppy love with the first one. Then, at 12, when I laid eyes on the third magnificent rocket ship I thought no other car could possibly take its place ever again.
Thank you sir - fantastic post!!
more than cool and highly interesting............
Incredibly cool ! When I was a small kid I had a working Ideal Toy car of the Firebird I vehicle.
I have to admit that I never understood cars that look like planes designed by a car company.
@bob-jackman On the whole I agree, with perhaps a few exceptions: The Cadillac Cyclone II being top of that small list.
I think perhaps these may a been a jet/rocket car of the future meant for traveling long distances on the automated, sensor-controlled "Highway of the Future" that GM and others thought wasn't that far off. Yet, the actual existing real world has a say in all this, too, so ........
I never understood cars that look like planes
Maybe so Bob, but without the Lockheed P-38 influencing Harley Earl, thus initiating the "fin craze" in 1948, the 1950's could've looked a whole lot different. 😏 🤔 😏 🤨
thanks David great pics and info
@chris At least the Cadillac was a car that had practical purposes. I do understand your comments.
The FB I sort of reminds me of a salt flats belly tanker. Cool stuff.

It was the concept car's fins that had a "practical" purpose, in theory. The FB-airplane-fins were supposed to help to stabilize the cars at high speeds...which is a practical application.
The Cadillacs of the 1950's (and all other finned cars ) had fins that were not practical; they served no purpose other than style-love it or hate it.
Personally, I love 'em! 😎 😎 😎
