Ever since I was a teenager (a few years back)
I've never understood why clothes don't have a universal (read that "the same") definition of "S, M, L, XL, XXL, and XXXL".Β How hard could it be for all clothing manufactures to have the "size" of a shirt, hoodie, etc., be the same?Β
I recently purchased two hoodies and asked for "XL".Β Both are made by different companies.Β The first one arrived, and yes it has an "XL" tag on the collar, but I got it barely over my head and then it was so tight, I couldn't even pull it down over my torso.Β
The other one arrived a day later, it too, was supposed to be an "XL", and when I put it on, I'm swimming in it.Β Honestly, it is huge!Β The moral of the story is that, I can't wear either of them!Β
This frustration with clothes sizes has been a constant all my life.Β I'll never understand.Β Β

The problem is that clothing manufacturing occurs virtually everywhere on the planet.Β What's needed is world-wide standardization and enforcement thereof.Β Good luck with that! πΒ
@chris it would seem a simple thing...but then we can't even agree on a universal measuring system...or language...or monetary system...or form of government...or what side of the road to drive on...or what to make our straws from...or whether or not pineapple has any business on a pizza...or...

I love your answer John!Β I've always gotten a kick out of America being called the United States, when not a single state in the union has any laws etc., that are "united".Β Each state makes "their own" laws.Β In one, something is legal, in another it is illegal.Β How is that united?Β I guess you're right John, there is no way to expect that an "XL" on a shirt could be the same for every clothing manufacturer.Β Β

George the answer to your delima is to move south where you don't need a hoodie.

@georgeschire Or do not buy online anymore? I had the same problem, and decided that was it after receiving 2 XL polos about 6 inches apart in girth size. So from now I only buy clothes from local retail stores, where I support local business, and because I've always tried the garment on, I'm happy with the fit.

"Retail stores?"Β Β "...tried the garment on?"Β Β Looking at these antiquated phrases is like reading a history book.Β Numerous download applications engineered for specific-router connectivity can facilitate augmented virtual-hologram-reality programs to allow for infinite pre-sale clothing possibilities to ensure proper aesthetic acceptance as well as precise fit requirements. One need not ever leave their house ever again to be stylish and/or a fashion trend setter.Β You guys are living in 2021! π π π

Wow,Β
I take umbrage with that !!!
There's nothing like a pizza with Canadian bacon and pineapple yum yum yum...
I've a similar problem with shoe sizes not being uniform.
@100ford2003, you put that umbrage right back where you found it, or Aunt May may just introduce you to her wooden spoon, young man!

@chris, with a forward-looking perspective like yours, I'm surprised you managed to anchor yourself in 2022! Why bother with outdated holographic images and inaccurate sizing algorithms when you can just wear virtual clothes??

Yes, clothing actual sizes are all over the place from brand to brand and within the same brand even. But my beef is with sizing, underwear type in my case About 15 years ago manufactures decided to go from making them by the inch of the waist [every inch] to s, M, L, XL, XXL.Β Large is 36" waistΒ to 38", Extra large is 40" to 42" and my waist has been 39" for years, so my tighty whiteys have been extra tight, which I discovered by trial and error tight is better than over sized.

John, you're assuming I leave the house..... I can pretty much operate 24/7 in a bathrobe, like Hugh Hefner used to do....... π π π π π π
